X. Launay et al., HIGH-TEMPERATURE EXAFS IN CONTACTLESS CONDITIONS AT THE K-EDGES OF GAAND Y ON SOLID AND LIQUID LN(3)A(5)O(12) GARNETS (LN = Y, A = AL, GA), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Mecanique, physique, chimie, astronomie, 324(8), 1997, pp. 527-535
We present here a new high temperature cell developed for in-situ stru
ctural experiments, in contactless conditions, by X-ray absorption on
solids or liquid samples. The aerodynamic levitated sample is heated w
ith a CO6 laser, allowing us to reach temperatures higher than 2 000 d
egrees C. EXAFS spectra at the K edges of Y and Ga in solid Y3Ga5O12 (
1 700 degrees C just below the melting point) and in liquid Y3Al5O12 (
melting point 1 950 degrees C) up to 2 100 degrees C garnets are prese
nted and discussed. The (Y-O) and (Ga-O) distances increase with the t
emperature. At the Y3Al5O12 solid/liquid transition, the mean coordina
tion number of Y decreases from 8 to 7.4.
