Solid-state structures are determined for two compounds which contain
dibenzo-13-crown-4 rings. These include the parent crown ether dibenzo
-13-crown-4 and its lariat ether derivative sym-(2-picolyloxy)dibenzo-
13-crown-4. The solid-state structure of dibenzo-13-crown-4 is complic
ated by disorder of the carbon atoms in the ethylene and propylene bri
dges. The asymmetric unit of the crystal for the lariat ether derivati
ve consists of two chemically identical, but crystallographically diff
erent, molecules.
