Abstract
It is suggested that electrical power losses be regarded as a criterio n for comparing different pulse-width modulations (PWM). It is physica lly sound to use an integral quadratic criterion whose values are prop ortional to the additional switching losses in inductive load of auton omous voltage inverters (AVI). Different PWM algorithms are compared, and recommendations are given concerning their use. The optimum PWM al gorithm has been synthesized in the form of a combination of familiar and new algorithms. The optimum PWM algorithm ensures a reduction in l osses in AVI load by a factor of up to 2.5. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
