Jk. Marshall et Ej. Irvine, SUCCESSFUL THERAPY OF REFRACTORY ERYTHEMA-NODOSUM ASSOCIATED WITH CROHNS-DISEASE USING POTASSIUM-IODIDE, Canadian journal of gastroenterology, 11(6), 1997, pp. 501-502
Erythema nodosum is a common extraintestinal manifestation of Crohn's
disease. While mild skin involvement often responds to conservative ma
nagement, severe or refractory cases may require systemic corticostero
id or immunosuppressive therapy. This report describes successful trea
tment of severe, refractory erythema nodosum associated with Crohn's c
olitis using oral potassium iodide. While the mechanism of action of t
his agent is poorly understood, it appears to be an effective and nont
oxic therapy for Crohn's-related erythema nodosum and warrants further
evaluation in a placebo controlled trial.
