Abstract
No firm is exempt from the potentially devastating effects of a crisis . Examples of how two crises have been dealt with are provided, and le ssons drawn from each. Handling a crisis is consider ed in three phase s: pre-crisis, crisis and post-crisis. In the pre-crisis phase emphasi s is on prevention and preparation. Films should establish a crisis ma nagement team and prepare a plan for dealing with crises. Some practic al suggestions are provided for the crisis phases where both communica tion and company response are important. In the post-crisis phase firm s need to rake stock and go on the offensive to regain lost ground.
