Abstract
Syntheses of poly(ester-amide)s derived from optically active amino al cohols are described. Poly(ester-amide)s with (M) over bar n 8,700 sim ilar to 27,200 were obtained by the polycondensations of hydroxycarbox ylic acids derived from maleic or succinic acid, and by those of dicar boxylic acids and diols' derived from dicarboxylic acids and optically active amino alcohols using EDC . HCl in satisfactory yields. The rad ical additions of ethanethiol or mercaptoethanol to the polymers deriv ed from maleic anhydride proceeded smoothly in satisfactory incorporat ion ratios (43 similar to 98%). The polymer obtained from succinic anh ydride and 2-aminoethanol showed hydrolytic degradability. The Tg of t he polymer derived from leucinol showed even-odd effect with increase of methylene chain length of dicarboxylic acids.
