Abstract
This paper concentrates on tile physical mechanisms of spalling studie d via plate-plate impact experiments in LPMM-Mctz. Some physical mecha nisms of spall for typical construction materials like Al-alloys and s teels are reviewed. A physically based simple cumulative spall criteri on is analysed and the material constants like the activation energy h as been found for several materials. A good correlation has been found between the criterion and experiments. The criterion is recommended f or FE codes.
