The aim of this study consists in developing a simple model which coul
d evaluate the fracture stress, in uniaxial compressive loadings, of b
rittle materials, like ceramics. We first prove that fracture stress o
f a polycrystalline TiB2 is independent of strain rate. Then, we prese
nt a modeling of this stress based on fracture mechanics principles an
d which parameters are the toughness, the porosity rate, the pores siz
e and their shape, i.e. material intrinsic values.
