Abstract
The echiuran Thalassema elapsum was originally described from the Nort h Atlantic by Sluiter (1912). The discovery of this species from the e ast coast of southern Africa is a new record and considerably extends its range of distribution. The species is redescribed and some of the taxonomic characters are reviewed.
