Abstract
Phenolic-alpha-glucosides were synthesized from polyphenols and starch using glucoside synthetase or cyclodextringlucanotransferase. The inh ibition of melanogenesis in B16 mouse melanoma by fourteen polyphenol- alpha-glucosides was investigated, among which hydroquinone, and m-and p-coumaric acid derivatives inhibited melanogenesis (18% at 350 mu M, 25% at 5000 mu M, and 70% at 1000 mu M, respectively) without inhibit ion of cell growth. Catechin-alpha-glucoside, which inhibits tyrosinas e activity in mushroom, did not inhibit melanogenesis in mouse melanom a.
