Sh. Choi et al., INTERGENERIC PROTOPLAST FUSION IN SACCHAROMYCOPSIS-FIBULIGERA AND SACCHAROMYCES-CEREVISIAE, Journal of fermentation and bioengineering, 84(2), 1997, pp. 158-161
The amylolytic yeast Saccharomycopsis fibuligera K-33 and Saccharomyce
s cerevisiae were used to breed a hybrid by protoplast fusion. S. fibu
ligera K-33 produced glucoamylase and alpha-amylase. The intergeneric
protoplast fusion frequency was 1.95 x 10(-4). Fusant 10-1, which enha
nced alpha-amylase production, produced 3.1% (v/v) ethanol in a 10% so
luble starch medium at 3 d. The amylase activity of the fusant was 2.5
times higher than that of the parental strain K-33 at 2 d.
