Abstract
Exploratory data analysis (EDA), a data-centered, inductive approach t o statistical analysis, provides effective tools for assessing the qua lity and integrity of GIS attribute data. This research presents selec ted examples demonstrating EDA distribution analyses, correlational st atistics, and proximity analysis. An integrated modular software proto type to operationalize these techniques combines the mapping and displ ay capabilities of ArcView with the statistical functionality of STATA in a MS-Windows multi-tasking, multiple-windowed environment.
