Abstract
Numerous arguments point to a Lower Cambrian age-not Neoproterozoic as previously suggested-for the Chuaria-bearing Pendjari Formation and i ts underlying tillite (Volta Basin, Benin and Burkina-Faso). The diagn ostic differences noted earlier between the Pendjari Chuaria sp. (cons iderable wall thickness and lamellar structure) and the Neoproterozoic type-species Chuaria circularis Walcott from the Chuar Group, Arizona , imply a new separate taxon.
