The preservation - used here as an umbrella term which includes conser
vation - of cultural patrimony is a global concern that extends beyond
geographical boundaries. We are all keepers of the world's recorded m
emory. Man-made and natural disasters in all parts of the world provid
e ample opportunity for international co-operative efforts. An early e
xample of such fo-operation was the massive relief effort following th
e Florence flood of 1966. Today, with the growth of international prof
essional organisations and the aid of new technologies, there are new
opportunities for disseminating presentation information globally. Pre
sented in this paper are recommendations for expansion of internationa
l opportunities through collaboration, educational activities, dissemi
nation of preservation information, sharing resources and funding, est
ablishing regional conservation treatment centres, and undertaking res
earch.
