Xiphinema waimungui n. sp. from native forest in the North Island, New
Zealand, is distinguished from many Xiphinema spp. by having two equa
l female genital branches, Z differentiation absent and tail short, co
nvex-conoid. Females are 2.71-3.19 mn long, odontostyle 117-130 mu m a
nd odontophore 65-75 mu m. Four juvenile stages are distingished; tail
shape does not vary markedly. Males were not found. Longidorus waikou
aitii n. sp. from a native forest remnant in the South Island, New Zea
land, has a rather posteriorly positioned guide-ring, large female bod
y size (>6 mm), a bluntly conoid lip region which is continuous with t
he body contour and a bluntly rounded tail less than an anal body widt
h long. No males and few juveniles were found. A dichotomous key is pr
ovided to the seven species of longidorids currently known from New Ze
aland.
