Pt. Simonian et al., CANDIDA INFECTION AFTER TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY - MANAGEMENT WITHOUT RESECTION OR AMPHOTERICIN-B, The Journal of arthroplasty, 12(7), 1997, pp. 825-829
A rare case of Candida infection after revision total knee arthroplast
y that was created medically, without amphotericin B or resection arth
roplasty, is reported. This case occurred in an elderly patient withou
t predisposing medical problems. The patient was treated with only a s
uppressive dose of ketoconazole. The patient was last evaluated 6 year
s after the revision surgery and had no problem or signs of infection.
Factors contributing to successful medical treatment in this case wer
e likely the routine debridement at revision surgery and the patient's
intact immune system.
