Abstract
An alternative approach to the Pomraning-Eddington method was proposed to bypass the choice of the weight functions used for enforcing the b oundary conditions. This approach, where variational technique is used in the integral form of the radiative transfer equation to find the c onstants of integration, extends the range of the validity of the Pomr aning-Eddington method. The method is applied to an anisotropic radiat ive transfer problem in turbid media. The boundaries of the medium are allowed to possess specular reflection. Different phase functions are considered and results are presented.
