A new concept for heal recovery from molten slag has been proposed. It
involves exchanging energy between sensible heat of slag and chemical
energy of gas mixture through methane-steam reforming and its reverse
reactions. The validity of this concept was fundamentally verified by
obtaining kinetic data on the reforming reaction using molten blast f
urnace slag samples. This includes essential information such as tempe
rature dependence and effects of composition of reactant gas on the ch
emical reaction rate. The sulfur containing in slag is also found to p
lay a significant role in the reforming reaction.
