DATABASE-BASED ARCHIVING IN THE SAP R 3 SYSTEM/

SAP R/3 is an example for a highly complex and integrated software pac kage, whose database systems have to manage huge amounts of data. In R /3 almost no data can be deleted, so functions are needed to relieve t he database system from some load. For this, archiving data is an appr opriate technology. In R/3 the concept of database-based archiving is implemented. This paper motivates archiving independent of concrete ap plications. Archiving in the R/3 system is explained in general, as we ll as the ADK (Archive Development Kit). An example demonstrates the u se of these concepts. Finally, SAP ArchiveLink is introduced, the inte rface for optical archiving systems.
