A new fluviatile formation (the so-called Sables de la Lande de Millie
res), discovered under a Holocene peat, has recorded an interglacial e
vent from the Lower Pleistocene in the seuil du Cotentin region (Norma
ndy, France). A multidisciplinary study (sedimentology, palynology) wa
s carried out on peaty levels from the alluvial plain. Their compariso
n with other Plio-Pleistocene series from northwestern Europe (Great B
ritain, The Netherlands, Germany) reveals the regional climatic evolut
ion during the Lower Pleistocene.
