The use of Co(COOR)(2) as the catalyst precursor enables C6H13CHO alde
hydes and C6H13CH2OH alcohols to be produced from 1-hexene and CO + H-
2 synthesis gas. The influence of the concentrations of the unsaturate
d substrate and cobalt on the rate of the reaction has been establishe
d. On the basis of the mechanisms of stages of activation of the catal
yst precursor and hydroformylation, a kinetic equation has been derive
d which takes account of the influence of the main parameters on the r
ate of the reaction. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserve
