Abstract
This paper is part of a larger study of competitive advantage, organis ational innovation and organisational performance. The paper is based on preliminary tests performed on Australian manufacturers participati ng in the Best Practice Program. The main aim is to provide a conceptu al model and establish critical constructs for operationalisation of t he main concept as seen by company executives. The purpose was to esta blish what managers consider the important items for various scales in order to facilitate a common understanding between academics and prac titioners. The findings are interesting in that they indicate what pra ctitioners believe to be important elements of the research constructs . The results also indicate possible future findings by pointing out t he relationships among the constructs.
