Abstract
A new U-Pb zircon age of 312+/-2 Ma for the Bassies pluton (Pyrenees) contradicts the previous whole-rock Rb-Sr dating at 276 +/- 16 Ma, whi ch was considered as the age of emplacement, therefore regarded as pos t-tectonic. The new date is in agreement with recent structural studie s wh ich suggest a Hercynian syntectonic emplacement for the Bassies p luton. These results strengthen the few U-Pb ages already published fo r the Pyrenean granites and indicate that the Hercynian plutonism of t he Pyrenees is essentially Carboniferous in age and syntectonic.
