Abstract
A liquid membrane electrode for the measurement of bicarbonate activit ies is described. The membrane incorporates neutral macrocyclic recept ors as the active component. The response mechanism involves the inter actions between the bicarbonate anion and the macrocyclic receptor as a Lewis acid. This paper presents the selectivity, the detection limit and the response time for this novel electrode system.
