A. Hamy et al., SIGMOID PERFORATION, AN EXCEPTIONAL LATE COMPLICATION OF PERITONEAL PROSTHESIS FOR TREATMENT OF INGUINAL-HERNIA, International surgery, 82(3), 1997, pp. 307-308
Two cases of sigmoid perforation and fistula occurred as late complica
tions after insertion of a nonresorbable prosthesis by the open preper
itoneal inguinal route. These infrequent complications are favoured by
peritoneal defects and use of materials which can cause extensive scl
erous reactions. Indications for this type of mesh are increasingly co
mmon with the intraperitoneal laparoscopic approach, so that careful p
eritoneal dissection and closure are required.
