Iv. Petrovskaya, THE PROBABILITY OF SPECIFIED CHANGES IN-ORBIT INTEGRALS AS A RESULT OF AN APPROACH IN A PLANE GRAVITATING SYSTEM, Astronomy reports, 41(5), 1997, pp. 709-713
A function giving the probability of a close approach with a field sta
r with specified changes in the energy and angular momentum integrals
is derived for a star of arbitrary mass in a plane medium. In the case
of weak interactions, this function is proportional to (Delta v)(-2),
where Delta v is the change of the star's velocity as a result of the
approach. Multiplying the resulting function by the multiplicity coef
ficient for distant approaches ensures convergence of the collision in
tegral in a plane medium.
