Abstract
This paper discusses the feasibility of characterizing mechanical prop erties of materials by using a mesoscopic approach. Based on the mesos copic system with the dislocation substructure at the core, the equati ons for flow stress and microhardness of alloys with second phases are proposed. The flow stress equation is experimentally verified. The pr oblems are grouped so as to build the universal, quantitative, and con stitutive equations relating the external properties and internal stru cture of materials.
