The present study is devoted to the investigation of substituted o-hyd
roxy-benzophenones as possible organic reactives with various applicat
ions in analytic chemistry. From this class of compounds there have be
en studied 2-hydroxy-5-metyl-benzophenone and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benz
ophenone, as possible extraction agents of the Ni2+ and Mn2+ ions from
the aqueous solution. The authors have established the optimum parame
ters and working conditions for attaining as high an extraction yield
as possible (over 96%). Both reactives extract the Ni2+ ions, while Mn
2+ is extracted only by 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone. On consideri
ng the properties of such organic ligands of forming soluble, coloured
and extractible complexes with the metallic ions an extractive-photom
etric method far the determination of Ni2+ with 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-ben
zophenone has been proposed.
