Abstract
The Effective Learning Programme (ELF) and the intranet to support it have been in development since 1993. Key to these developments have be en the Department of Learning Support (LS) and the Learning Developmen t Unit (LDU). LS consists of library; media, languages and academic co mputing, and the LDU is a central unit that works with schools and dep artments to develop initiatives in teaching and learning. LS's role in ELF included the development of IT skills materials; online diagnosti c testing and profiling fools; and the intranet that supports ELP. Thi s paper outlines the development phases of ELF and highlights the key role of LS.
