A left ventricular assist device was placed as a bridge to cardiac tra
nsplantation in a 51-year-old man with cardiogenic shock. Placement of
the left ventricular assist device occurred 5 years after implantatio
n of an implantable cardioverter/defibrillator. The implantable cardio
verter/defibrillator discharged appropriately during ventricular assis
t device support to terminate episodes of sustained ventricular tachyc
ardia without causing malfunction of the ventricular assist device. (C
