The reaction of dimethyldioxirane (1) with the Ru-II trisbipyridyl com
plex accompanied by chemiluminescence (CL) was studied. It is establis
hed that the intensity of CL and the rate of its decay increase propor
tionally with the concentration of Ru-II. The bimolecular rate constan
t (k(2)) of the reaction of 1 with Ru-II was determined. The activatio
n parameters (E-a and logA) for this reaction were calculated from the
temperature dependence of k(2) The excitation yield of Ru-II (eta*(R
u)) was estimated. The quenching of Ru-II by dioxirane was studied, a
nd the bimolecular quenching constant and the coefficient of excitatio
n regeneration were determined. It was suggested that the catalysis of
the decomposition of 1 and the excitation of Ru-II occur via a mechan
ism of chemically initiated electron exchange.
