A. Filippi et al., SEQUESTRATION OF THE ALVEOLAR BONE BY INVASIVE ASPERGILLOSIS IN ACUTEMYELOID-LEUKEMIA, Journal of oral pathology & medicine, 26(9), 1997, pp. 437-440
Compared to non-invasive aspergillosis, invasive aspergillosis in the
region of the mouth, jaw and face has rarely been reported. It occurs
particulary often in the presence of haematological oncological illnes
s. The case of a patient suffering from acute myeloid leukemia is desc
ribed; he contracted invasive aspergillosis of the lungs and the alveo
lar processes in the course of chemotherapeutic treatment. All the alv
eolar processes in the region of the premolars and molars were demarca
ted and had to be removed by sequestrectomy. The therapy of invasive a
spergillosis should be carried out within the framework of intensive i
nterdisciplinary treatment. In addition to systemic and local antimyco
tic therapy, the debridement of necrotic hard and soft tissue was nece
ssary.
