C. Annequinthevenin et al., ION-EXCHANGE ON GLASS SUBSTRATES - INFLUENCE OF THE MIXED CATION EFFECT ON CONCENTRATION PROFILES, Physics and Chemistry of Glasses, 38(5), 1997, pp. 263-268
Conductivity measurements have been carried out on silver sodium borat
e and silicate glasses revealing a 'mixed cation effect'. This effect
is interpreted as being nonlinear variations with glass composition of
the self diffusion coefficients of the two mobile cations. An empiric
al relationship is deduced from conductivity measurements and is intro
duced into ion exchange governing equations which are solved by numeri
cal method. Under such conditions, ion exchange simulated profiles sho
w significant differences compared to those obtained using composition
independent diffusion coefficients.
