Abstract
The criteria for the diagnosis of follicular carcinoma of the thyroid and in particular of the ''minimally invasive'' variant are discussed. The introduction of a new terminology reflecting the indolent behavio r of most of the thyroid neoplasms morphologically resembling follicul ar adenomas, and currently diagnosed as carcinomas on the sole basis o f capsular invasion, is recommended.
