A method to calculate the spin reorientation angle of cone anisotropic
material from parallel and perpendicular magnetization curves of an a
ligned particle system is suggested. In this method, the spin reorient
ation angle is expressed as a function of remanent magnetizations para
llel and perpendicular to alignment direction and particle alignment f
actor. The effect of basal plane anisotropy is included in the calcula
tion, and a slight underestimation results if it is neglected. Experim
ents on Nd-2(Fe0.9Co0.1)(14)B particles showed a spin reorientation an
gle of 29.2 degrees at 4.2 K. The underestimation in spin reorientatio
n angle due to the neglect of basal plane anisotropy was about 9% for
Nd-2(Fe0.9Co0.1)(14)B at 4.2 K.
