The magnetic properties of the ten title compounds were investigated w
ith a SQUID magnetometer in the temperature range of 2-400 K with magn
etic flux densities up to 5.5 T. The magnetic susceptibilities of the
two lanthanum compounds indicate that the vanadium atoms carry a magne
tic moment essentially corresponding to one uncompensated spin, and th
e chromium atoms have moments, which correspond to two unpaired spins.
After subtraction of these susceptibilities the other compounds show
Curie-Weiss behaviour with magnetic moments corresponding to the free
Ln(3+)-ion values. The vanadium compounds of Ce, Pr and Nd show magnet
ic order at temperatures below 10 K. In contrast, the moments of the c
hromium atoms of all compounds order ferromagnetically with Curie temp
eratures varying between 105 and 125 K. In addition, the moments of th
e magnetic Ln(3+) ions show order with transition temperatures between
10 and 35 K.
