Low-cost, easily fabricated dry cells were constructed by gluing epoxi
dized styrene-butadiene-cupric oxide conducting copolymer on magnesium
or aluminium foils, using a solid electrolyte made from polyvinyl-alc
ohol (PVA) and polyethylene-oxide (PEG). The e.m.f. values of the cell
s ranged from 0.45 to 1.24 V and their efficiencies from 1.6 to 8.1 mW
h cm(-3), or 1.8 to 9.2 W h kg(-1). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
