A parallel execution model for the update process of temporal database
s is introduced in this paper, based on temporal parallelism and tempo
ral independence. The parallel approach improves the through-put of ma
ssive and complex updates of a multi-version schema system. The notion
of temporal agents and its effect on parallelism is discussed, as wel
l as different transaction modes. Several simulation results that pres
ent the benefits of the parallel execution model are introduced and di
scussed.
