A computer program for the treatment of the kinetics of asymmetric cat
alytic reactions proceeding through two consecutive steps was develope
d. This allows analysis, simulation and optimization of processes cons
isting of a sequential (i) asymmetrization of a bifunctional prochiral
or meso-compound in a first step, followed by (ii) kinetic resolution
of the chiral intermediate in a second step. A case study shows that
- provided that the kinetics of both steps are matching - step two may
considerably contribute to the asymmetrization reaction. (C) 1997 Els
