Abstract
A class of highest-weight irreducible representations of the quantum a lgebra U-h(gl(infinity)) is constructed, which is considerably larger than the currently known representations (Levendorskii S and Soibelman Y 1991 Commun. Math. Phys. 140 399). Within each module a basis is in troduced and the transformation relations of the basis under the actio n of the Chevalley generators are explicitly written.
