Abstract
We describe a method for obtaining an analytic form for an inverse of a class of symmetric semi-infinite banded matrices, which are, apart f rom a finite number of terms, of the Toeplitz type. The results are ap plied to the determination of the spectrum of two-magnon excitations i n Heisenberg spin chains with next-nearest-neighbour interactions.
