Abstract
In this paper we investigate the question 'What kind of information is contained in temperature fluctuation concerning fire detection?'. To answer this question, the Swiss Company CERBERUS AG developed a specia l sensor for measuring the fluctuations, being robust to environmental factors. With this sensor it is possible to distinguish between a fir e in a cold room or airflow through an open window in a warm room only by the fluctuations. In addition, we discuss the evolutionary spectru m from some typical fire and non-fire signals. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scien ce Ltd.
