Abstract
The effect of different welding parameters on chemistry and mechanical properties of the weld metal in three different shielding gas media e .g. 100CO(2), 78 Ar-20CO(2)-2 0(2), 93 Ar-5 CO2-2 O-2 has been studied by using the fractional factorial design of experiment. In general, 1 00 CO2 gas medium resulted in increased oxygen content in the weld met al Increasing amounts of argon ill the shielding gas medium reduced th e oxygen content ill thr weld metal. Optimum combinations of mechanica l properties a re obtained with 93 Ar - 5 CO2 - 2 0(2) as sheilding ga s.
