A crossed beam coincidence counting technique has been used to study G
aq+ formation in one-electron capture by H+ and He2+ ions in single co
llisions with ground state Ga atoms within the energy range 35-700 keV
amu(-1). An attempt has been made to describe the measured charge sta
te fractions F-q of Gaq+ ions for q = 1-6 in terms of a simple model b
ased on an independent electron description.
