Kd. Keim, THE MILIEU IN THE MODERN-ERA - ON UNDERSTANDING AND APPLYING A POST-TRADITIONAL, SOCIAL SPACE CONCEPT OF THE MILIEU, Berliner Journal fur Soziologie, 7(3), 1997, pp. 387
This article examines the viability of a localized milieu concept whic
h asserts persistence. With critical reference to theoretical argument
s on the ''second modern era'', the author develops a dynamic milieu c
onstruct which incorporates two ideal-typical models which may be char
acterized as ''supporting structures'' and ''threshold spaces''. Throu
gh interpretation by secondary analysis of reconstructive case studies
(in and around Berlin) it has been possible to empirically underscore
these two milieu types. The result is a concept of ''modernized'' soc
ial-spacial milieus which form. a bridge between globalization and loc
alism on which new types of reembedding are being tested.
