Abstract
This study presents a new method to produce three-dimensional woven pr eforms with varied cross sections for composite reinforcement. The fun damental theory and the associated applications are discussed. The maj or machine design includes the motion of picking mechanisms that can b e altered as desired. The mechanisms of the apparatus and the processe s of how the preforms are fabricated are illustrated.
