Air-jet commingled yam of 50:50% wt glass fiber/polypropylene filament
was manufactured to study the effect of the structure of various yam
on the mechanical properties of composites. Unidirectional thermoplast
ic composites were fabricated in a sheet mold in a hot press. The stru
cture of air-jet commingled yam was observed by SEM. The bending test
of air-jet commingled yarn composites was performed on the DS-500 test
er using a three-point loading system. Experimental results showed tha
t the bending strength of composites was affected by the impregnated p
roperties and bulkiness of the glass fiber bundle.
