Ultraviolet absorption spectra of three nonplanar porphyrins possessin
g the different substituents were investigated in sixteen solvents. Th
e spectral changes were found to be the strong solvent and substituted
group dependences. The results can be interpreted in terms of H-bondi
ng interactions between the pyrrole NH protons and the lone pair elect
