Abstract
The first results of a preliminary brittle tectonic palaeostress analy sis carried out in Crimea and NW-Caucasus highlight the stress-displac ement relationships during the Tertiary, along this WNW-ESE trending t ectonic boundary between the European Platform and Black Sea domains. Following major extension, shortening and strike-slip (mostly dextral) occurred in variable proportions during the Tertiary; the present-day stress regime is compressional-dextral.
