RESULTS AND FUTURE-PROSPECTS OF THE CARTI SOL PROGRAM - GENETIC-MAP BUILDING FOR SUNFLOWER AND RESEARCH OF MOLECULAR MARKERS FOR PATHOGEN RESISTANCES

A lot of research activities have been focussed on disease resistance for many years. The available results and the complexity of the questi ons to be solved were the main reasons leading to the development of t he Cartisol programme, which has just come to an end. Cartisol was a j oint research programme involving public research institutions and pri vate seed companies. In a first period, a genetic RFLP map was built u p for sunflower. In a second part of the programme, QTL for Sclerotini a resistance and interesting areas for pathogene resistances of the ge netic map could be identified. Following this work, we applied for a p atent and scientific papers have been published. Results and knowledge obtained by Cartisol will be of particular interest to create and pro mote new molecular tools for efficient marker assisted plant breeding.
